Robert P. “Bob” Raddatz, 91, of Kenosha, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 25, 2017, at Hospice Alliance Hospice House in Pleasant Prairie surrounded by his loving family. Born in Racine, WI, on May 28, 1926, he was the son of the late Paul and Bertha (Badtke) Raddatz. Moving to Kenosha as a young child, he was educated at Friedens Lutheran School and Mary D. Bradford High School. From 1944 to 1946, Bob served in WWII in the United States Navy in the Asiatic Pacific Theater aboard a Destroyer. His ship was the USS Blue DD-744. His tour of duty took him to Hawaii, the Philippines, China, Saipan, Tinian and Guam. Bob received several medals including the WWII Victory Medal, Navy Occupation Service Medal with Asia Clasp, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Medal, China Service Medal (Extended), Honorable Service Lapel Pin (Ruptured Duck) and others. He was honorably discharged in 1946. After being discharged, he signed up for the naval reserves. On August 20, 1949, he married Elizabeth “Betty” Schmidt in Kenosha. He had been employed with the Simmons Co., Snap-on Tools, and Dynamatic Corp., retiring from there in 1984. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church. Bob loved to sing, singing in the Snap-on Chorus from 1947 until 1985, an Octet, a Barbershop Quartet, The Misfits and the Wesley Church Choir until the age of 86. On September 12, 2015, he took the Honor Flight to Washington, DC, accompanied by his grandson, Derek. Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Betty Raddatz of Kenosha; two children, Sandy (Bob) Petersen and Richard (Maria Comprado) Raddatz, both of Kenosha; a sister, Jeanne (Charles) Wiersum of Lake Tomahawk, WI; three grandchildren, Derek (Samantha) Petersen of Kenosha, Amanda Petersen of Portland, OR, and Sully Richard Raddatz of Kenosha; and two great-grandchildren, Bradley and Declan Petersen. He is further survived by several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Paul J. Raddatz; and a sister, Marian E. Rohrer. Bob’s family would like to extend a special thanks to his close neighbors, Dr. Michelle Gauthier and her staff, and the staff of Hospice Alliance for all of the kind and compassionate care they gave him. Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 29th, at Wesley United Methodist Church, 4600-60th Street, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be private at Sunset Ridge Memorial Park. Betty,You have our deepest sympathy on the passing of Bob. Bob and I go back to our working at the Simmons Company in the Beautyrest department in 1947 when I was fresh out of high school. He mentored me on the art of tying mattresses. Always a good friend.Our condolences to you and your family.
