Stephonia Smith

1920 ∼ 2017

Stephonia “Stephie” Smith, 96, of Kenosha, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 11, 2017, at Aurora Medical Center with her loving family by her side. Born in Racine on July 20, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Mary (Slovak) Blaha and was educated in the schools of Racine. On August 30, 1947, she married Perry Albert Smith in Racine. Together they moved to Kenosha shortly after marriage. He preceded her in death on April 28, 2012. Prior to marriage, Stephie worked for S.C. Johnson’s. Later in life she was an administrative assistant for the KYF. She was a longtime member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and a former Cub Scout Den Mother. She loved gardening, reading, and traveling, especially the trips she and her husband would take to Las Vegas twice a year. She was a very positive, strong, and independent woman, who loved telling stories and sharing her sense of humor. She loved her family dogs, but most of all, she cherished spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Stephie is survived by her three children, Rochelle (Albert) Holcomb, Colleen (the late Timothy) Kernan and Perry (Nancy) Smith; her four grandchildren, Albert (Mallary) Holcomb, Adam (fiancée Kati Stanley) Holcomb, Ryan (Sara) Smith, and Evan Smith; and her great-granddaughter, Katherine Smith. She was preceded in death by her four brothers, Frank Blaha, John Blaha, William Blaha, and Edward Blaha; her four sisters, Angeline Heinicke, Lydia Schultz, Frances Culver, and Mildred Clickner; and a half-sister, Stephonia Blaha. Stephie’s family extends a special thank you to all the caring staff at Aurora Medical Center who helped with her care throughout her stay there. They would also like to thank Dr. Michael Kreager, Dr. Michael Rizzo, special neighbor Linda, and caregiver Stacey for all the kind and compassionate care that Stephie received from them. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 15th, at Proko Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. Entombment will follow at All Saints Mausoleum. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the charity of one’s choice in Stephie’s name would be greatly appreciated by the family.Proko Funeral Home & Crematory5111-60th StreetKenosha, WI 53144Phone: (262) 654-3533Visit & Sign Stephie’s Online Memorial Book at:www.prokofuneralhome.com
