Raymond Mazzarelli passed away on June 18, 2017 in the comfort of his home. He was 89 years old. Ray was born on April 1, 1928, the son of Amedeo and Amalia (Copen) Mazzarelli. He received his education in Kenosha area schools and on July 19, 1947, at Holy Rosary Parish, he married childhood friend and Bradford HS class of 1946 sweetheart Lorraine (Grbavac) Mazzarelli, ultimately the mother of their seven children. Lorraine preceded him in death in October 2001 after 55 years of marriage. After her passing, he married Mildred (Grasser) Mazzarelli, who also preceded him in death in September 2015. At the early age of 15, Ray began working for Kenosha Unified School System. He held several positions and ended his 23 year tenure there as Manager of Warehousing. In 1977, he joined Outboard Marine Corporation as General Supervisor of their new international warehouse in Beloit, WI, moving his family to Janesville to do so. He returned to Kenosha after retiring from OMC in January 1991. Ray was very generous with his time and well into retirement he continued to help family, friends and community with home improvement projects and worked part time as Bailiff of Kenosha County intake court, a testament to his work ethic and desire to contribute. Ray was an active member of numerous organizations, including Knights of Columbus and Italian American Club, Vice President of Building Service Employees Union Local 168 and of Catholic Knights Branch 151, and President of Mt. Carmel Holy Name Society. He loved his Catholic faith, and enjoyed ecturing at his parishes over the years, which included Holy Rosary, St. Casmir, St. Williams (Janesville), Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, St. Elizabeth and St. Mary. Ray was especially proud of being a member of the class of ’46 Breakfast Club, where he was able to share memories and happenings with his Bradford classmates, more than a dozen of whom still meet for breakfast the first Friday of every month. Ray put family above all else. One of two boys, he was preceded in death by his younger brother John Mazzarelli and by his infant daughter Barbara. He is survived by all seven of his children, Steve (Karen Erickson), Raymond (Patricia), Jean (Jerry Herrick), Linda Zapp (Mike Flesch), Catherine (Eric) Dodd, Margaret (Eric) Rohs and James. He is also survived by Ursula Hanel and close friend Elaine Schlosser, and by grandchildren Joy (Ed) Mathein, Matthew (Amy Kaifesh) Themer, Christopher (Rachel Christman) Zapp, Angela Brigham, Leah (Pat Wilbert) Rohs, Gabrielle Mazzarelli, Hannah Rohs, Sarah Dodd, Joseph Mazzarelli, Sofia Mazzarelli, Jon Erickson, Amy Erickson, Celina Sicilia and Trista Sicilia and two great grandchildren. He is also survived by four step children, Mary (George) Kolar, Bob (Sandra) Grasser, Mark (Lynda) Grasser and Carl (Theresa) Grasser, and by step grandchildren, Kevin (Rachael Nork) Kolar, Megan (Bill) Byron, Laura Kolar, Mitchell (Aly) Grasser, MacKenzie Grasser, Rita (Matt) Hipple, Christopher Grasser, Joann Grasser, Daniel Grasser and Lori (Richard) Mauer. All look to carry on Ray’s legacy of love and care for others. The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses and staff associated with Aurora Healthcare and all those who offered care and compassion to Ray throughout his life and especially in recent times. Visitation and a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary Catholic Church, 7307 40th Ave., Kenosha, WI 53142, on Friday June 23rd. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM and mass will begin promptly at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Safe Harbor Humane Society are welcome.Proko Funeral Home & Crematory5111 60th StreetKenosha, WI 53144Phone: (262) 654-3533Visit & Sign Ray’s Online Memorial Book:www.prokofuneralhome.com

My sympathies go out to your family. I have great memories of both your dad and mom. Kay and Margie, when I saw the obituary in the paper, the first thing that came to mind were Zotz candy. Still one of my favorites! May all the great memories bring you comfort.

Please accept my condolences on the death of Ray. My late husband and I knew him through his second wife Millie, who was a dear friend to my mother- in- law Helen. Lovely man and a hard worker in everything he chose to do.
