Walter F. “Wally” Mutchler, Jr., 79, of Kenosha, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 22, 2017, at United Hospital System-Kenosha Medical Center Campus. Born in Kenosha on May 15, 1937, he was the son of the late Walter and Gina (Hillesland) Mutchler, Sr. As a child, his family called him “Cookie”. A lifelong resident of Kenosha, he was educated in local schools. During his junior year, Walter enlisted in the United States Marine Corps at the age of 17 and served proudly for three years at Camp Pendleton until his honorable discharge. Having enlisted during the Korean War, Walter was still eligible for receiving his diploma; in 2002, he officially graduated from Bradford High School. At the age of 75, Walter and his wife participated in the Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. sponsored by Snap-On Tools. He flew the US and USMC flags year around. On April 7, 1969, he married Sally Jane Fox in Manton, MI. Having recently just celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary. Walter was employed for many years with Snap-On Tools until his retirement in 1987. He was an avid rose gardener and his roses earned him the nickname of “Rose King”. He and Sally were part of the founding fathers of the Gateway Rose Society. He also enjoyed woodworking, golf, and playing dartball for 50 years. Wally was also a 30-year member of the Moose Lodge. He and Sally went on their twelfth and last cruise, which went entirely around South America. Survivors include his wife, Sally Mutchler of Kenosha; three children, Donna Cornelius of Racine, Barbara (Tim) Magnussen of Hammond, WI, and Jeff (Rosie) Mutchler of Racine; a step daughter, Kathleen Rainbolt of Rockford, IL; two brothers, Gene (Leila) Mutchler and Jerome Mutchler, both of Kenosha; six grandchildren, Jocelyn Cornelius, James (Emma) Cornelius, Connor Mutchler, Travis Mutchler, Kelby Orsburn, and Brianna (Matthew) Watts; a great-granddaughter, Olivia Cornelius; and countless friends. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Patricia and Jane Mutchler; and four brothers, Wayne, Raymond, Lonnie, and Larry Mutchler.
