Arthur (Art) Otto Peters II, 57 of Wheatland, passed away peacefully Sunday, April 9, 2017, at his home surrounded by his loving family, after his second courageous battle with cancer. Art was born to Arthur and Beverly (Otto) Peters in Kenosha on April 4, 1960. He graduated in 1978 from Tremper H.S. and attended Gateway Technical College. On September 1, 1990, he was united in marriage with the former Nancy M. Ross. At age 14, Art started working for his uncle’s manufacturing company doing fabrication. At 16, he started at K-mart and continued there through high school working full-time unloading trucks. After high school he worked for Jockey International full-time in the docks unloading merchandise. Once laid off from Jockey he was a bartender and assistant manager for the Brat Stop. After the fire at the Brat Stop he enrolled full-time at Gateway and during that time, he became an EMT and volunteer firefighter with Pleasant Prairie for 7 years. Before finishing at Gateway, he worked with adults with intellectual disabilities at LCSHD in Zion, IL, doing shipping for Abbott Labs. On September 5, 1989, he started working for the City of Kenosha Fire Department. There he was promoted to Apparatus Operator and then Paramedic. He retired from the fire department on September 5, 2013, after his first battle with cancer. Once he became a Paramedic, he also worked part-time in the Emergency Department at Aurora Memorial Hospital in Burlington for 8 years. During this time he also worked part-time as a lifeguard at the Aurora Wellness Center in Burlington. Art had a passion for photography, starting his own business A.P. Photography Services. He also had a knack for taking the perfect selfie. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, making 3 trips across the country. He was a successful landlord, doing most of the improvements and repairs on his own. He also had a gift of being able to fix almost everything, earning him the nickname “Fix it Daddy” from his children at a very young age. His love for fixing things also helped many friends, sometimes out of tough situations. He was an avid Brewer and Packer fan, attending as many games as possible each season. He enjoyed traveling to the north woods, to the family cottage in Eagle River. He loved boating with family and friends. He enjoyed vacationing in Florida with his family on the annual trips to see the ocean. He later visited Jamaica with his wife and his love for the country brought him back many more times. Art is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Nancy Peters of Wheatland, his children, Arthur E. Peters III of Madison and Sadie Peters of Wheatland, his mother Beverly Peters of Burlington and brothers, David Peters of La Crosse and Brian Peters of Pleasant Prairie. He is further survived by many cousins and his nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur F. Peters and both maternal and paternal grandparents. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Syed Haider, MD and the nursing staff at the AHC Southern Lakes Aurora Cancer Care, and Janay from Aurora at Home Hospice Care. Also a special thank you to the brothers and sisters of the Kenosha Fire Department. Visitation will be held on Monday, April 17th, at the Marina Shores, 302-58th Street, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 12:00 noon. Interment will take place at a later date.Proko Funeral Home & Crematory5111-60th StreetKenosha, WI 53144Phone: (262) 654-3533Visit & Sign Art’s Online Memorial Book at:www.prokofuneralhome.com

I've know Art since high school and what I remember since first meeting him was his big laugh, and enthusiasm for life. While on the fire department, I got to see him often in the Emergency room and was so impressed at the great job he did as a paramedic. He was smart, efficient and was so personable to the patient. Even after he retired, I would get to see him at Burlington when I'd go pick up patients there. He always greeted my crew with a smile and could be trusted to help us with an difficult situation. I know he adored his family, always had a great story about them. He will be sadly missed.
