Lloyd Kenneth Johnson

1935 ∼ 2017

Lloyd Kenneth Johnson
Lloyd K. Johnson, 81, of Kenosha, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, March 10, 2017, at Hospice Alliance Hospice House in Pleasant Prairie after a five-year battle with cancer. Born in Caledonia, MN, on August 15, 1935, he was the son of the late Selmer and Sarah (Buxengard) Johnson. He attended schools there and graduated from Caledonia High School. His classmates nicknamed him Smiley saying, “His smile goes all the way around and buttons in the back.” Lloyd lettered in football, basketball, baseball and track. Although not picked up, Lloyd was scouted and went to training camp with the once known Milwaukee Braves. Lloyd served in the United States Army in the late 50s as a radio operator, stationed in Berlin, Germany, where coincidently his son Michael was stationed at the same base 26 years later. On August 13, 1960, he was united in marriage to Vera Diersen. They resided in Kenosha where Lloyd worked at American Motors, then retired with Chrysler after 38 years. Although warm hearted and humble, Lloyd had a very competitive spirit and passion for bowling, golf, pool, and horseshoe, where he once earned the title World Champion in his class. The size of his trophy collection testifies to his many accomplishments but his true pride was for his family. Lloyd leaves behind his wife, Vera; four children, Rachelle (Roger) Jeffery, Steven (Mary) Johnson, Michael (Jamie) Johnson, and Kerri (Dave) Richardson; six grandchildren, Kristin (Travis) Payne, Kyle Jeffery, Sarah Johnson, Adam Johnson, Benjamin Johnson, and Jacob Johnson; and several nieces and nephews. Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents and four siblings. Lloyd’s family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Hospice Alliance for all of the kind and compassionate care they gave him. Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 16th, at Proko Funeral Home from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and will continue Friday, March 17th, at Bethany Lutheran Church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 10:00 a.m. Entombment will follow at Sunset Ridge Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Bethany Lutheran Church or Hospice Alliance would be appreciated by the family.Proko Funeral Home & Crematory5111-60th StreetKenosha, WI 53144Phone: (262) 654-3533Visit & Sign Lloyd’s Online Memorial Book at:www.prokofuneralhome.com

It was a great joy to have such wonderful neighbors while growing up. I'm sure Lloyd is proud of you all and probably had a few smiles watching us fool around with football games in the backyard. My mom sends her best to all of you.
