Joseph E. "Joe" Grochowski, 90, of Kenosha, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 17, 2017, at St. Joseph’s Home and Rehabilitation Center. Born in South Milwaukee, WI, Joe was the son of the late Florian and Stanislawa (Lyszkowska) Grochowski and the youngest of eight children. He graduated from South Milwaukee High School and served in the U.S. Army from 1944 to 1946. He was honorably discharged in November of 1946 with the rank of Staff Sergeant. Joe attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison and graduated in 1951 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemical Engineering. After graduation, he was employed for 35 years as a Chemical Engineer with Abbott Laboratories where he held several management positions in Corporate Engineering. He traveled extensively to help build and oversee additions to Abbott plants all over the world. On October 23, 1954, he married Marcy Galewski at St. Adalbert’s Catholic Church in South Milwaukee. In 1957, they moved to Kenosha where they raised their family and enjoyed 61 years of marriage. Surviving Joe are his four sons, Michael of Kenosha, Patrick (Jacquelyn) of Madison, WI, Alan (Sue) of Hoffman Estates, IL, and Paul (Barb) of Pleasant Prairie, WI; two daughters, Sue (Scott) Sheaffer of Delafield, WI, and Debra (John) Kunz of Lake Forest, IL; and twelve grandchildren, Rachel, Sarah, Gabrielle, Brandon, Dylan, Kira, Joey, Billy, Alec, Jake, Kevin and Kelly. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives. Joe was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Marcy Grochowski in 2016; and his seven brothers and sisters, Felix (Betty), Ignatius (Cordelia), Frank (Lucille), Stan (Kay), Eugene (Elizabeth), Frances (Alois) Grochowski, and Phyllis (Henry) Wilkowski. The family would like to thank the nursing staff at St. Joseph’s Home for the loving and compassionate care given to Joe. Visitation will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 7307-40th Avenue, Kenosha, WI on Saturday, February 25th, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be held privately.
