Max J. Vogel, Jr., 82, of Kenosha, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 16, 2016, at Brookside Care Center. Born in Chicago, IL, on February 7, 1934, he was the son of the late Max and Pearl (Heckenbach) Vogel, Sr. He graduated from Lane Technical High School in Chicago then proudly enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. On December 22, 1956, he married Barbara O’Donnell in Waukegan, IL. Following his military service, Max graduated from the police academy and went on to serve in law enforcement in Waukegan and Grayslake, IL, from which he retired after 18 years. He moved to Kenosha in 1992 and retired from the Lake County State Attorney’s Office in 1994. Max was an avid photographer both at work and at home. He also enjoyed bowling, golfing, fishing, camping, and was a fan of the Chicago Bears and Cubs. Max is survived by his wife, Barb Vogel of Kenosha; two daughters, Cindy (Damian) Moshier of Union Grove and Julie (Mike) Silverstein of Kenosha; and one grandson, Reid Silverstein. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Jane Harper and Gloria Vogel; and a grandson, Nathan Silverstein. Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 22nd, at Proko Funeral Home from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the memorial service at 6:00 p.m. Interment will be held on Friday, December 23rd, at Sunset Ridge Memorial Park Chapel at 11:00 a.m. followed by full military honors. To Max's family:I had the honor of working with Max when he was with the LCSAO. I was a young Waukegan cop and he took me on as a protect to make sure I didn't get killed. He was kind, generous to a fault, and I'll miss him.
