Emil Anthony Matera, 75, of Kenosha, died peacefully on Tuesday, November 29, 2016, with his wife at his side at Hospice Alliance Hospice House, after a short battle with cancer. Born in Kenosha on June 22, 1941, he was the son of the late Albert and Catherine (Molinaro) Matera. He attended local schools and was a graduate of Mary D. Bradford High School in 1959. He also attended the University of Wisconsin, and later graduated from UW-Milwaukee. On March 24, 1973, he married the love of his life, Lynn Matye. He was a member of the Kenosha Breakfast Optimist Club, the Italian-American Society, and the Italian Business and Professional Association, where he had also served as a past treasurer. He was also a member of the Goodfellows, and the Oldsmobile Club of America. He also served, from 1964-1970, in the U.S. Army Reserves, stationed in Racine and at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO. Emil was an avid golfer up until his death and won several championship trophies with his golf league. He also loved his classic car, a 1970 Oldsmobile 4-4-2, proudly going to many car shows in the area. He also played recreational basketball for many years, finally hanging up his shoes when he was 50. He was also a devoted Badgers, Packers, and Cubs fan, and was overjoyed at the Cubs World Series win! He especially loved doting over his grandchildren, playing puzzles, going to the park, riding bikes with them, and taking them for ice cream. Emil was employed as a banker for over 30 years, beginning in Waukegan, IL, and in 1972, coming to the old Kenosha Savings and Loan as a branch manager. He later became an assistant vice president and a mortgage loan officer after the bank became Advantage Bank. When the bank changed hands to M&I Bank some years later, he retired in 1998. Emil is survived by his wife, Lynn Matera of Kenosha; sons, Martin (Jennifer Conway) Matera of Kenosha and David (Elisabeth Lean) Matera of North Bethesda, MD; grandchildren, Addison, Natalie, and Mason Matera; sisters, Melinda Randa of Milwaukee, and Marilyn (Thomas) Westland of Kenosha; brother-in-law, Michael (Judy) Matye of Kenosha; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his in-laws, Martin and Emma Matye; his brother-in-law, The Honorable Rudolph T. Randa; and his beloved canine companion, Casey. Emil’s family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to Hospice Alliance for all the special care they provided. Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 4th, at Proko Funeral Home from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 5th, at Proko Funeral Home at 9:15 a.m. Mass will be celebrated at St. Peter’s Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. Entombment will follow at All Saints Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the American Cancer Society or Hospice Alliance would be greatly appreciated by the family.Proko Funeral Home & Crematory5111-60th StreetKenosha, WI 53144Phone: (262) 654-3533Visit & Sign Emil’s Online Memorial Book at:www.prokofuneralhome.com
