Celia Louise (Brain) Winston was born on June 7, 1929 in Moravia, Iowa to Earl and Ruth Brain and she was born to eternal life on Friday, November 18, 2016. Celia is survived by daughter Janet (Michael) Key of Milwaukee; son Steven of Somerset; son Scott of Kenosha; and grandchildren Jacob, Madeleine, and Jocelyn Key. Celia is further survived by her brothers, Dean (JoAnne) Brain of Hedrick, Iowa; Carl (the late Dorothy) Brain of Hedrick, Iowa; Henry (Clara) Brain of Fort Dodge, Iowa; and brother-in-law Harold (the late Carol) Winston of Mason City, Iowa; and fifteen nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Keith E. Winston, and her parents. Celia graduated from Competine Township High School in Farson, Iowa in 1947; Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa in 1951; and the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa with her Master’s Degree in Dietetics in 1957. She worked as a registered dietician at VA hospitals in Lincoln, Nebraska; Chicago, Illinois; and Iowa City, Iowa; as well as at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa. She met and married the love of her life Keith Winston of Atlantic, Iowa on March 23, 1959, and they were happily married for 53 years until his death in May 2012. Celia and Keith moved to Kenosha, Wisconsin in 1963, when Keith got a teaching job at Bradford High School. Celia worked at Kenosha Memorial Hospital as a registered dietician from 1964 to 1994. She was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church, and was a member of the First United Methodist Church for fifty-two years. She served as president and in many other capacities of the United Methodist Women, including Cookie Walk Chairman and Book Club President. Celia loved meeting her “diehard” friends at the Carthage College Pool and doing water aerobics well into her eighties. Celia was an excellent cook, a seamstress without equal, and made the best apple pie ever! Celia and Keith loved to travel, visiting many international locations. Celia’s favorite destinations were Europe, especially Greece, and Hawaii. She imparted her love of travel to her children and grandchildren, and she traveled with them extensively. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 22nd, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 919-60th Street, Kenosha. Private interment at Sunset Ridge Cemetery, section J.
