Robert John Olufs

1927 ∼ 2016

Robert "Bob" Olufs, 89, passed away on Friday, November 11, 2016, in Kenosha, WI. He was born in Chicago on October 25, 1927, to Frank and Hannah (Paulus) Olufs. He graduated from Lane Tech High School and then, as many young men of his time, joined the army where he served as a Surgical Technician in Yokahama, Japan. After service, he enrolled at Augustana College where he earned his B.S. degree and met his future wife. On June 8, 1951, he married Marilyn Seaquist in Chicago: a union of 65 years, this past June. By September they had moved to Philadelphia where Bob earned his certificate in Physical Therapy from the University of Pennsylvania. Bob began his Physical Therapy career with the Curative Workshop in Milwaukee. In 1954 he took a new job as a therapist for the Kenosha Unified School District at the Orthopedic School and then in the orthopedic wing of Jane Vernon Elementary, retiring in 1988. In addition to working for the school district, Bob also worked part time for the Visiting Nurses Association in area nursing and private homes. Born with an entrepreneurial spirit, he always dreamed of owning his own business. He owned the Jumpin' Jimminy trampoline center in Kenosha, sold Solargizer Solar Panels, and invented X-Er-Wox weighted walking sticks. In his spare time, Bob volunteered for various organizations. He was a Boy Scout leader, taught Hunter Safety, and was very involved with Multiple Sclerosis Society, church council, Gideon International, and Easter Seals. He and Marilyn also owned and managed a family resort in Pine River, MN, on Big Trout Lake. Bob is survived by his wife, Marilyn and five children: Karen Olufs and John Dulaney of Kenosha, Steve (Debbie) Olufs of West Salem, Karl (Barb) Olufs of Union Grove, Kathy (Ward) Neesen of Stevens Point, and Janet (Arni) Mahant of Kenosha. He also leaves behind eleven grandchildren and his first great-grandchild. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 18th, at St Paul’s Lutheran Church, 8760 37th Avenue, Kenosha, WI, from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral service at 12:00 noon, followed by military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Kenosha, Faith Lutheran Church in Swanburg, MN, or the local Multiple Sclerosis Society in Kenosha.Proko Funeral Home & Crematory5111-60th StreetKenosha, WI 53144Phone: (262) 654-3533Visit & Sign Robert’s Online Memorial Book at:www.prokofuneralhome.com

To Marilyn and family, Now is the time to remember the good times, and I'm sure you have many of them. Bob always had a friendly hello for Butch and I. We all will remember him and now the two of them are discussing St. Paul's. Our families sympathy to all.

May the Olufs family find peace during these trying days. Glad I had a chance to see Bob and Marilyn last month in Chicago. I enjoyed the many trips up to the lake resort in Minnesota. May his memory be eternal."Big Al" Gianaras
