Michael D. Horton, 56, of Kenosha, passed away on Thursday, October 13, 2016, at United Hospital Systems-Kenosha Campus, surrounded by his wife and daughter. Michael was born in Black River Falls, Wisconsin on November 16, 1959, the son of Gayle and the late Marilyn (Ringlien) Horton. He moved with his family to Kenosha and was educated in the Kenosha school system. Mike was employed by the Kenosha News in the press room for over 25 years and recently by Poclain Hydraulics as a machinist. On May 25, 2012, he married Darlene Bell in Kenosha. He and Darlene attended Souls Harbor Pentecostal Church in Kenosha. He loved gardening riding his bicycle with his family, swimming, sledding, watching the Green Bay Packers, spending time in the outdoors especially going on picnics at Petrified Springs Park with his family. He also enjoyed playing basketball and playing guitar. Mike was a hard worker, making him an excellent provider and always putting his family first, which he learned from his father, Gayle. Surviving Michael are his loving wife, Darlene; his daughter, Melissa; his father, Gayle Horton of Merrillian, WI; three sisters, Mary (Dan) MonCatch of Arbor Vitae, WI, Nancy (Dave) Beegle of Racine and Kari Horton of Kenosha; and five step children, Victoria, David, DeUndrae, Katrina and Archie. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother, Marilyn; a brother, Robert, both his maternal and paternal grandparents; and two uncles, Spider and Blacky. A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, October 22nd, at the Proko Funeral Home from 12:00 noon until the time of the service at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be private.
