Lena Dorff
Lena Dorff, 105, of Kenosha, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 18, 2016, at home surrounded by her loving family. By praying the rosary daily and receiving the Holy Eucharist, in the form of the Body of Christ, Lena’s prayers were answered. She was able to live her final years at home and pass away quietly with no one looking into her eyes. Born in Kenosha on July 9, 1911, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Rosina (Marruca) Gelsone. In 1935 she was united in marriage to Peter Dorff, Sr. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on March 29, 1965. Lena was employed at Simmons Mattress. She had originally worked for them at the World’s Fair in Chicago. Later on, she was employed by Ventura Fine Jewelers where she had worked for 17 years, until she was 79 years old. She enjoyed going to church at Holy Rosary on Sundays, where she had been a member her entire life. She was a member of the Holy Rosary Ladies Society as well. Lena was an avid ballroom dancer, spending time out on the dance floor until she was 94. Other hobbies of hers included knitting and crocheting. She also loved spending time with her family and friends. Lena is survived by her three children, Carol (Edward) Kamin Jr. of Kenosha, Leon (Patricia) Dorff of Canada and Peter Dorff, Jr. of Kenosha; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. She is also survived by her sister, Elizabeth Muehlbauer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Peter Sr., and her parents. The family would like to extend thanks to all of the nurses from Aurora who cared for Lena; Lisa, Jill, Shirley and Stephanie, and also her aid Brianna. A very special thanks also too Pat Leckman, who spent the last several years looking after Lena.
