John Salmen
John Salmen, 75, of Kenosha, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 15, 2016, at Brookside Care Center with his family at his side. Born in Scharosch, Romania, on July 18, 1941, he was the son of the late John and Sara (Krestel) Salmen. He was educated in the schools of Romania. On April 19, 1964, he married Anna Ungar in Romania. Shortly after marriage, John came to America on July 5, 1964 and a year later on March 28, 1965, his wife Anna came to America from Durles, Romania, to be with her husband to start a life together. They settled in Chicago, Illinois, and had two daughters, Ursula and Erika. John worked as a janitor and later became a building engineer. He was a hard worker and enjoyed being with his family and friends. His hobbies were bowling, scratch off tickets and spending his weekends at his cottage in Salem where family and friends would come over and play horseshoes. He was a member of the Transylvanian Saxon Branch 9. John and Anna retired to Kenosha in May of 2015. They enjoyed spending time together on their deck overlooking the lake and enjoying all that nature had to offer. Survivors include his wife, Anna Salmen; two daughters, Ursula (Eddie) Zemola and Erika (Rich) Rooney; grandchildren, Jennifer (Kevin) Pfledererer, Lisa Zemola, Connell Rooney and Colleen Rooney; and a brother, Heinrich Salmen. He is further survived by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Wilhelm Salmen and Reinhold Salmen, and two other brothers that were stillborn. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at St. Catherine’s Kidney Center and also Kindred at Home for all of the compassion and care they gave John. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 20th, at Proko Funeral Home from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Sunset Ridge Memorial Park.
