Verna Gertrude Kreth

Verna Gertrude Kreth
Verna G. Kreth, age 91, passed away early morning 7 December 2015 at Aurora Medical Center in Kenosha after a brief hospitalization. Widow of Deputy Sheriff Donald Kreth, she is survived by an adoring family including children, Bonnie Nelson and Deb Nicolazzi (Jim Thomey), grandchildren, Rhonda Brock-Servais, Donnette Steinberger and Julie Veira, and 5 great-grandchildren, as well as her three older brothers, George, Edward, and Richard Barnes. As a young woman, Verna worked as a matron for the Kenosha County Sherriff’s Department; in later years, she was a clerk for Town and Country Liquors. Always, her primary occupation was taking care of other people, whether she knew them or not. Her generosity of spirit knew few bounds: anyone was welcome to her table or to her wisdom, which could be delivered with an edge; she did not suffer foolishness. Many people unrelated by blood called her “Mom” or “Gram.” She loved bowling and was a league officer for many years; she loved knitting and was commended by more than one charity for her tireless work making preemie hats and prayer shawls. She loved reading, filling her home with books, and she loved dancing. She had her last dance with her great-grandson at his wedding last August. She has polkaed out of this world and into the next; her spirit will be sorely missed by all who knew her. Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 10th, at Proko Funeral Home from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 12:00 noon. Interment will follow at Sunset Ridge Memorial Park.Proko Funeral Home & Crematory5111-60th StreetKenosha, WI 53144Phone: (262) 654-3533Visit Verna’s Online Memorial Book at:www.prokofuneralhome.com
