Janet L. Matthews, 80, of 3109 12th Street, Kenosha, WI, passed away peacefully at 5:00 a.m., Friday, August 28, 2015, at Brookdale Kenosha North under Hospice care where she had been living for past 8 years. She was born January 11, 1935, in Rushville, Indiana. She was the daughter of Oliver and Alvena Wooley. A graduate of Connersville High School, she attended nurses training Indiana University, Indianapolis. Known to close friends and family as a consummate home maker, she loved to cook and any time you visited, you were certain to be welcomed with love and delicious food. The holidays were always a special treat for everyone. As soon as you walked in you were overcome with the smell of turkey and a home cooked banquet that tantalized your every sense as well as conversation that nurtured your soul and stimulated your mind. A woman who possessed the spirit of a writer, the mind of a philosopher, a seeking spirt for truth and knowledge, Janet is the eternal role model of strength and endurance, a pillar of love and compassion whose example lives on through the lives of her family. She will always remain in our hearts. Janet is survived by her brother, Eddie Wooley of Richmond, Indiana; two sons: Kent E Cook and wife, Hisako of Kenosha, Wisconsin, and Gary Michael Cook of Richmond, Indiana; and two grandchildren, Shane Cook of Chicago, Illinois, and Jennifer Cook of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert D. “Bob" Matthews, and her parents. Private Funeral Services will be conducted at the convenience of the family.
