Irma Edith Jensen

1922 ∼ 2015

Irma (Irmgard) Edith Jensen, nee Henke, of strong German heritage, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, August 18, 2015, at Brookside Care Center in Kenosha at the age of 93. She was born on June 4, 1922, in Neidenburg, Germany. As a rambunctious toddler, she made the transatlantic voyage with her brave mother in 1925 to join her father in the United States. She settled with her family in Kenosha, WI, and with an unwavering faith in the Lord, lived a long, blessed life. She married Donald I. Jensen on June 21, 1941, and spent many years as a homemaker serving her family and church. In her earlier years, she served as Sunday School Superintendent, White Cross Chairman and was also involved in the women's missionary programs with Immanuel Baptist Church. Irma and Don enjoyed cross country travel to visit family and friends or just for the fun of it. They made beautiful memories with annual camping trips to Crystal Lake near Minocqua, WI, a tradition carried on by her family. Irma delighted in working with children and was involved in children's ministries such as Child Evangelism Fellowship, which probably well prepared her for time she would spend with her many great grandchildren later in life. In her golden years, Irma kept herself busy and connected with birthday breakfasts, lunches and outings with the local senior center and St. Mary’s senior community, weekly visits to great-grandchildren, and drive bys (yes, in her car) to check up on those for whom she cared the most about. She never missed a birthday, anniversary (of any sort), or family gathering. Armed with church bulletins, snapshots from old times, newspaper clippings, and her notebook filled with important dates, Irma was always ready to talk about her week with whoever would lend an ear. Irma is survived by two children, also lifelong Kenosha residents, Jerry (Sandra) Jensen and Jeanne (Michael) Graziano; three sisters, Gerda Hayes, Ruth Joyce and Lorraine (Mel) Behr; and seven grandchildren, Denise Jensen, Paul (Sharon) Jensen, Anne (Devlin) Norman, Melissa (Binh) Hua, Michael Jr. (Hallie) Graziano, Michele (Rich) Wire and John Graziano. She was lovingly known as GG to seventeen great-grandchildren, Katelyn Goll, Micaela Wire, Emily Goll, Henry Hua, Jared Wire, Isabelle Graziano, Hannah Hua, Samuel Hua, Molly Jensen, Lauren Graziano, Sadie Hua, Michael S. Graziano, Emma Hua, Kellan Jensen, Hope Jensen, Elise Hua and Graham Norman; and one great-great grandchild, Jayden Moore. She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Helen Henke; and her beloved husband, Donald I. Jensen. Visitation will be held at Immanuel Baptist Church, 6009 Pershing Blvd., on Friday, August 21st, from 8:30 a.m. until the time of the service at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Sunset Ridge Memorial Park.Proko Funeral Home & Crematory5111-60th StreetKenosha, WI 53144Phone: (262) 654-3533Visit Irma’s Online Memorial Book at:www.prokofuneralhome.com
