Sophia L. Ritacca
Sophia L. Ritacca, 89, of Kenosha, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 16, 2015, at United Hospital System-Kenosha Campus surrounded by her family. Born January 26, 1926 in Waukegan, IL, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Adoxia (Gianakapolous) Melius. A lifelong resident of Kenosha, she was educated in local schools. She was married to Anthony J. Ritacca. He preceded her in death on November 28, 1996. For many years Sophia was a waitress at the Hob Nob Restaurant. She then worked as a Medical Assistant for Primary Physician’s Office for Dr. Maniquis in Libertyville, IL. She was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church and participated in the Ladies Altar Society for many years. She was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed golfing in her earlier years. Sophia was a fine cook, specializing in Greek Cuisine. Surviving are her three children, Tina Ritacca and Louis (Maryann F.) Ritacca, both of Kenosha and Loren (Carolyn) Ritacca of Milwaukee, WI; her five grandchildren, Lisa (Jim) Feken, Jennifer (Bill) Kreuser, Kristina (Jeff) Pearson, Richard (Carrie) Anderson and Nicolas Anderson; four great-grandchildren, Zachary Feken, Talia Kreuser, Jeff Pearson and Sophia Pearson; two brothers, Peter Melius of Waukegan, IL, and Dr. Paul (Vaiya) Melius of Auburn, AL; a sister, Panora Bazilius of Cleveland, OH; and also a sister-in-law, Dorothy Melius of Round Lake, IL. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Jim and her twin Nick, and also a sister Helen. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Steven Feuerbach and the staff of Kenosha Hospital 4th Floor, Grande Prairie Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center and Case Del Mare Assisted Living for all the loving are given to Sophia. A visitation will be held on Friday, February 20th, at Proko Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. On Saturday, February 21st, relatives and friends are asked to meet at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church for a 10:00 Mass of Christian Burial.
