George Frank Venci

1922 ∼ 2015

George F. Venci, Sr., 92, of Kenosha, passed away on Saturday, February 7, 2015, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family. George was born in Kenosha on July 21, 1922, the son of Antonio and Angeline (Principe) Venci. He was educated in the schools of Kenosha, and served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Philippine Islands. On October 8, 1955, he married Darlene L. Wohlwend at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Kenosha. He was employed at American Motors for thirty seven years retiring in 1982. George was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Holy Name Society, Italian American Club and a lifetime member of the Kenosha V.F.W. He was an avid Cubs fan, and rarely missed a game. George loved gardening, especially his fig tree. He enjoyed fishing with sons and friends and hunting with his brother, Anthony. In 2011, he took part in an Honor Flight to the World War II Memorial with his son, Matt, and called it one of the best days of his life. Surviving George is his wife of 59 years, Darlene; his three sons, Anthony (Lola, deceased), George Jr. (Laura Schwartz) and Matthew; two daughters, Elizabeth McHalffey and Eileen (Mark Bennett) Venci-Bennett; five grandsons, Evan and Cory McHallfey, Geoffrey Bennett, Charles P. Venci and George F. Venci III; one granddaughter, Caitlynn Bennett; two brothers, Anthony Venci of Kenosha and William Venci of Chester, VA; and many loving nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Lawrence Martin; a brother, Robert Battista; a sister, Eleanor Covelli; an infant sister and brother, Mary and Frank; and a granddaughter, Carlee Bennett. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, February 10th, at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church at 4:30 p.m. Visitation will be held on Tuesday at the Proko Funeral Home from 12:30 p.m. until 3:45 p.m. with prayers at the funeral home at 4:00 p.m. Interment will be held at Green Ridge Cemetery privately.Proko Funeral Home & Crematory5111-60th StreetKenosha, WI 53144Phone: (262) 654-3533Visit George’s Online Memorial Book at:www.prokofuneralhome.com
