Martha Marie Chalekian

1925 ∼ 2015

Martha Marie Chalekian, 89, of Kenosha, passed away Wednesday, January 14, 2015, at Grand Prairie Nursing Home in Pleasant Prairie. Born in Kenosha on July 21, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Grace (DeFazio) Falduto. She was a lifelong resident of Kenosha and a graduate of Kenosha (Bradford) High School class of 1944. Upon graduation, she did her share for the War effort by working at Great Lakes Naval base in Illinois processing various paperwork. After the war ended she was employed by Dr. L. B. Thompson as a Receptionist and Doctor’s Assistant. She met and subsequently married Jack Chalekian on October 17, 1953, at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church. They shared many adventures/road trips driving around the Midwest and beyond in old (less than reliable) cars. They had two children, Jack R. and John G., as they built a home and their family on the Northside. Martha and Jack were an ideal match as he enjoyed the outdoors activities of: gardening, hunting, fishing and foraging for wild berry, nuts, asparagus, while she developed expert skills and enjoyed cleaning, cooking, canning/preserving the daily catch/haul. Their love of food and cooking together was a strong bond and something they both cherished. Martha’s specialties were homemade ravioli, and lasagna made with her homemade tomato sauce. She was a proud Grandma and supported her grandchildren as they participated in extracurricular activities and sports. What has sustained Martha throughout her life was her great faith in God. In her later years she always had her Rosary beads. Nightly saying them would comfort Martha and give her peaceful sleep. Surviving are her two sons: Jack R. of Bradenton, FL, and John G. (Kathy) Chalekian of Prospect Hts., IL; four grandchildren: Melissa, Jennifer, Kimberly and Bryan; and one brother, Joseph Jr. (Pat) Falduto of Kenosha/Scottsdale, AZ; brother-in-law, Harry Chalekian; and great-granddaughter, Jaclyn. A special joy the last few years of her life were the Sunday night visits of her niece, Irene Nahabedian who would bring her ice cream. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack on October 23, 2011, sisters Mary Covelli, Martha (infant who she was named after), and two brothers: Paul and Frank Falduto. Martha’s family would like to thank Hospice Alliance for their help in her last days and the many people who gave Martha care and comfort throughout the years. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 20th, at 10:00 a.m. with Mass to be celebrated at Our Lady of the Mt. Carmel Catholic Church. Interment will follow at St. George Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday, January 19th, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Proko Funeral Home.Proko Funeral Home and Crematory5111-60th StreetKenosha, WI 53144Phone: (262) 654-5333Visit Martha’s Online Memorial Book at:www.prokofuneralhome.com
