Margaret Schlater, 96, of Kenosha, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday, December 26, 2014, at Brookside Care Center. She was born in Rutland, IL, on February 17, 1918; she was the daughter of the late John and Antonia (Bracci) Rossi. On July 15, 1939, she married Herbert E. Schlater at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on June 5, 1998. Margaret was employed at Nash Motors during the war, Simmons, Vincent-McCall Co, and later Brookside Nursing Home where she retired after 15 years. At the time of her death, Margaret was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Her world centered around her family and her faith. She was an extremely religious woman who paid for the education of a priest and a nun. For many years she made daily holy hours at St. Joseph’s Chapel. She is survived by her three loving children, Mary Lynn (Robert) Knapp, Fred A. (Lena) Schlater and John M. (Cindy) Schlater, all of Kenosha; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and her brother, Frank (Beverly) Rossi of Madison, WI. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; husband; her brother, Victor Rossi; her sister, Angela Viola; and one grandchild, Catherine Schlater. The family would like to thank everyone at Brookside who was so kind to our mother and to the family. A special thank you to “Jeannie.” Visitation will be held on Monday, December 29th, at the Proko Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Family and friends are asked to meet at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church on Tuesday, December 30th, for a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial.
