William L. “Bill” Salerno, 95, of Kenosha, passed away peacefully at his residence on Wednesday, September 10, 2014, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Kenosha on October 18, 1918, he was the son of the late Gaetano and Maria (Iantorno) Salerno. A lifelong resident of Kenosha, he was educated in local schools. He served in the United States Army during World War II. On April 23, 1949, he married Clara Guidotti in Kenosha. She preceded him in death on September 23, 1978. He had been the owner and operator of Independent Food Mart and later worked at Lincoln Food and Model Market until his retirement in 2006 at the age of 87. Bill was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, the Italian American Club, and V.F.W. Junker Ball Post 1865. He enjoyed fishing and following the Stock Market. Bill would like to thank his family for a wonderful life and also Dr. Rade Milosavic, Dr. Raymond Knight, Dr. Raaid Museitif, Hospice Alliance and Right at Home Private Care Agency for the kind and compassionate care they gave him. Surviving are his two daughters, Cathleen Salerno of Kenosha and Patricia McCaffrey of Middlebury, VT; a grandson, Justin McCaffrey of Los Angeles, CA; two sisters, Lorraine Salituro and Virginia M. (Ceaser) Mattioli, both of Kenosha; and two brothers, Lester and Albert, both of Kenosha. He is also survived by his special friend, Annie; and numerous nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his wife Clara; one son, William A.; two brothers; Dr. Fred and Orlando; and four sisters, Rose, Adeline, Rosina and Irene. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 13th, from Proko Funeral Home at 9:30 a.m. Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, 1919-54th Street, at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at St. George Cemetery.
