Thomas John Benkovich

Thomas J. “Tom” Benkovich, 77, of Kenosha, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 24, 2014, at United Hospital System-Kenosha Campus surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Waukegan, IL, June 27, 1937, the son of the late John and Mary (Jarc) Benkovich. He was educated in the schools of Waukegan and graduated from Waukegan Township High School; he then attended Lake Forest College. Tom served in the United States Marines from 1956 until his honorable discharge in 1958. On July 1, 1961, he married Carmella Metallo at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Tom was employed by the U.S. Postal Service as a Letter Carrier for 35 years until his retirement in 1991. Following his retirement he and Carmella moved to Florida and resided there for many years returning to Kenosha in 2006. Tom also played in several bands in the Kenosha area and Florida, playing for many weddings and clubs. He was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan, Chicago Bears and Chicago Black Hawks fan. Tom was also an avid golfer with a handicap of 4. Surviving are his wife, Carmella of Kenosha; three children, John Benkovich, Theresa (Bill) Kinville and Mary (Tim) Sheffield, all of Kenosha; five grandchildren, John, Paul, Anthony, Emily and Matthew; and mother-in-law, Therisa Metallo. He is also survived by many other relatives and dear friends. Visitation will be held for Tom at the Proko Funeral Home on Monday, July 28, 2014, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the prayers at 10:45 a.m. when we will process to Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church for Mass at 11:30 a.m. Interment will be held privately. I am so sorry to hear about your loss. It will seem odd when we return to WI and not see Tom waving from across the street.Don will miss him very much when he is united with Keith and Ron. I hope your family will find strength from The Lord during this sad time. You are in our thoughts and prayers.
