John Westplate, 91, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, on Sunday, July 20, 2014, at Home Inspired Senior Living, surrounded by his family. Born in Vesper, WI, on April 10, 1923, he was the son of the late Isaac and Mary (Van Strien) Westplate. On June 2, 1951, he married Martha Elizabeth “Betty” Kreitzburg in Eckhart, MD. John worked at Jay-Bee Auto Body Shop and retired after 31 years at AMC. In prior years he sold car insurance for Preferred Risk Insurance Co. part time as well as owning his own landscaping business. He was active in the Bonnie Hame Ministries, was a Sunday School Superintendent and Deacon at the Baptist Tabernacle and was involved with Child Evangelism Fellowship (CEF). He more recently attended CrossWay Community Church in Bristol. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Betty; his six children, Ron (Trudy) Westplate of Pleasant Prairie, Janice (Jonathan) Engdahl of Chardon, OH, Myron (Susan) Westplate of Lake City, MN, Joanne (Peter) Mariani of Pleasant Prairie, Jayne (Rob) Ringel of Sheboygan, WI, and Jacquelyn (Alexx) Dungey of Carmel, IN; 22 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his four brothers, Martin (Pauline), John, Adrian (Nellie), and Donald. We would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Peter Mariani, Caregivers from Right At Home, St. Joseph’s Rehab, everyone at Home Inspired Senior Living and Hospice Alliance for their loving care. Funeral services for John will be held on Thursday, July 24th, at CrossWay Community Church at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Sunset Ridge Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at Proko Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 23rd, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and again on Thursday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
