Arthur “Art” James Evans, 85, of Kenosha, WI, peacefully entered into eternity, Wednesday, April 30, 2014, at Aurora Hospital with his family by his side. Art was born December 22, 1928, in Maesycrugiau, Wales, to John and Annie Evans. After completing his studies as a young man he enlisted in the British Navy. He had an honorable career, reaching the rank of Chief Petty Officer. In 1965 Art came to America finding his way to Reno, NV. He worked for Viking Metallurgical Co. installing and maintaining furnace equipment, retiring in 1993, after 25 years of employment. During his retirement he spent his time pursuing his hobbies which included hunting and deep sea fishing, woodworking, and spending time with his family. In 1998, Art followed his son to Kenosha, WI, insisting that it was to be with his grandchildren. He spent many hours with his grandchildren playing cards, games and especially checkers, teaching them how to lose graciously. “Papa” had an amazing memory for facts, he would teach the children geography and give them obscure information that they remember still. Art is survived by his sister, Essie Keane of New Zealand. His son, Jerry (Trina) McCarty of Kenosha, WI. Daughters, Sherry McCarty of Puyallup, WA, and Marjorie Turner of Phoenix, AZ. Seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several nephews and nieces abroad. Art is preceded in death by his parents, John and Annie Evans and his siblings, John Evans, Tom Evans, and Marie Jones. At his request he was cremated, his ashes will be distributed in the mountains in Nevada at a later date at which time a private memorial will take place with family. Art was an intelligent, generous and “proper” Welshman to the end. He lived the life he wanted and was content in the life he had. Even though he lived in America for more than half his life he never became a citizen because he promised his mother that he would remain a Welshman. He was loved immensely and his presence will be missed deeply.Proko Funeral Home & Crematory5111-60th StreetKenosha, WI 53144Phone: (262) 654-3533Visit Art’s Online Memorial Book at:www.prokofuneralhome.com
