Judith Marie Niles

1943 ∼ 2014

Judith Marie Niles, 70, of Kenosha, was taken into heaven last Sunday, April 20, 2014, after a beautiful Easter celebration in Libertyville, IL, with her family -- a family whom she loved and adored. Judy was born in Kenosha on December 15, 1943, the daughter of the late Marvin and Viola (Kulbiski) Swanningson. She attended Kenosha schools and graduated from Gateway Technical College with a degree in Marketing and Materials Management. She was married to Douglas W. Niles in 1968. Though the marriage was later dissolved, they had a daughter, Laura – for whom she called her greatest joy and accomplishment. She was happily employed by Jockey International for over 20 years until her retirement. Jockey was a place she enjoyed every day of her career. Judy led a life of service and grace. She was a long-time member of First United Methodist Church and friend of Wesley United Methodist Church. She was Past President and highly involved in her church Women’s and Mission’s groups. Judy advocated on the Board for CYC (Christian Youth Council) and loved teaching ceramics. She was a member of the Jockey Club and Jockey Being Family Committee. Judy coordinated and cooked for the Soup Kitchen (Shalom Center) for eight years, and enjoyed making blankets for newly adopted children in Kenosha County. Even recently, as her health was failing, she would still help deliver Meals on Wheels to those in need. Her hobbies were vast. She loved to crochet, paint ceramics, try new recipes and enjoyed a good Chinese buffet. But don’t let that fool you…she also loved the Packers, NASCAR, watching Castle and working on campaigns. But most of all, she cherished her beautiful grandchildren, Stephanie and Joshua. Together, Judy, her daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren would travel the United States – and even Ecuador! She loved the ocean and her favorite spot in the world was the Pink Shell Resort in Fort Myers Beach Florida. Judy is survived by many wonderful family members: her daughter and joy Laura, her treasure and son-in-law Brian, her grandkids, Stephanie (her Beauty), Joshua (her Shorty) and her sassy Grand Puppy, Winnie. She so loved her sister Asenath and brother-in-law Bill Thurau. She has five caring and loving nephews and niece-in-laws, Gregory and Mary Jane Thurau, Bradley Thurau and Alexandra Matute, Scott (Jackie) Niles, Todd Niles and Corey (Priscilla) Niles, and she has four adorable grand nieces and nephews, Julia and Hannah Thurau and Andres and Bryana Thurau. Judy also had many family members and dear friends for whom she loved, including her two God children, Robert Blackmore and David Stank. Judy would often tell her daughter, “When things aren’t going your way, and you think life can’t get any worse – say a prayer and give something of yourself. You won’t believe the good things that are to come.” That was Judy! Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 27th, at First United Methodist Church, 919-60th Street, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. The memorial service will be on Monday, April 28th, at First United Methodist Church at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Kenosha Area Meals on Wheels Program would be greatly appreciated…a cause close to her heart.Proko Funeral Home and Crematory5111-60th StreetKenosha, WI 53144Phone: (262) 654-3533Visit Judith’s Online Memorial book at:www.prokofuneralhome.com
