Lorraine Salerno

1925 ∼ 2014

Lorraine Salerno
Lorraine M. Salerno, 88, a lifelong resident of Kenosha, was born to eternal life on March 6, 2014, at Harmony of Kenosha, with her loving daughters at her side. Born on April 18, 1925, she was the youngest child of Dominic and Maria Morabito. Lorraine was educated in Kenosha and grew up in the Lincoln Park neighborhood, along with many “south side” Italian families. Lorraine spent time watching sports, especially figure skating, football (Packers), golf and tennis. In her younger years, she loved to play softball, basketball and play catch with her family. As a young girl, she aspired to become a member of the Kenosha Comets, the Kenosha Team of the All American Girls Professional Baseball League (AAGPBL). However, at that time, family responsibilities took the lead and she chose to help support the family rather than pursue a career away from home. As a young woman, she was employed at Samuel Lowe Company and was a member of the International Brotherhood of Bookbinders. During that time, she met the love of her life, Dominick J. Salerno. They were married on January 11, 1947, in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. They shared 64 years together until he preceded her in death on September 30, 2011. After her children were grown, Lorraine went back to work at American Motors as a relief worker. She was small in stature, but big in determination. She loved working and retired from there a few years later. Lorraine was famous for her delectable cakes and pastries along with her outstanding cooking of fabulous Italian dishes. The aromas that came from her kitchen would entice everyone. She was also known for her immense compassion for everyone. Her tenderness and caring welcomed many to her home. Together, she and Dominick had 3 children, Donna (Jay) Cook, Rose (Robert) Kloet, and Peter Salerno (who preceded her in death on November 9, 2007), 9 grandchildren, Lisa (Terry) Parker, Sarah Martin, Michael (Mark) Sander, Chris (Kerry) Cook, Dana (Scott) Hetzer, Kelly (Jay) Salerno, Katy (Andrew) Johnson, Stuart Salerno and Drake Salerno, and 10 great-grandchildren. Lorraine is also survived by her adopted daughter, Mariea Rogers, who was her caring companion for 3 years, sisters-in-law Viola (Dino) Pierangeli and Carmella Fox. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Theresa Curty, Rose Rossi, Ann Falduto, her infant twin sister Nancy, and brothers Joseph Morabito and Frank Morabito. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her. The family would like to express its immense gratitude to Harmony of Kenosha for opening its doors to us during her last hours, Hospice Alliance and the loving care givers we encountered, Dr. Mathew McCarthy, Dr. Mitchell Ziarko and Cindy. Visitation will be held on Monday, March 10th, at Proko Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 11th, from the Proko Funeral Home at 9:30 a.m. Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be private.Proko Funeral Home & Crematory5111-60th StreetKenosha, WI 53144Phone: (262) 654-3533Visit Lorraine’s Online Memorial Book at:www.prokofuneralhome.com
