Florence Chiappetta, 89, of Kenosha, died on Sunday, February 23, 2014, at Saint Francis Hospital in Milwaukee, WI. Born on January 25, 1925, in Marano Principato, Province of Cosenza, Italy, she was the daughter of the late Benedetto and Giovannina (Bilotti) Guido. On November 25, 1951, she married Charles (Pasquale) Chiappetta in Italy. He died on August 11, 1999. In 1952, Florence was the first sibling in her family to reach the United States soil. Since her father Benedetto became a United States citizens in the late 1800s, Florence was automatically a citizen when she arrived. Florence wanted so much to come to America to find the land of opportunity. Florence bravely said goodbye to her husband, brothers and sisters and said she would see them all in America. On the U.S. Constitution Boat, she traveled 11 days to Ellis Island. She briefly lived in Chicago with relatives. Florence was forever grateful to Jenny (Volpentesta) Gennaccaro, her husband’s cousin, who opened her heart and home to her in the Columbus Park area of Kenosha. Eventually Kenosha became home for her all family and friends. In mid-late 50’s, she worked as a cook in Italian restaurants. Later she worked at Warwick Electronics in Zion, IL, as a seamstress for Isermann Brothers Clothing, Kenosha, Moriarity Company and the Leblanc Corporation. But most important, was her family. She was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church and the Ladies Society. She enjoyed cooking for her family especially at the holiday seasons. She made fabulous cuduriedi. She loved to grow vegetables in her garden. Every year with her son Louie she would can tomatoes from her garden. She loved visiting with her relatives and friends. She was often the life of the party and loved to talk. Surviving are her son, Louis, daughter, Delia Chiappetta. She loved and adored her grandsons, Louis Charles and Daniel Charles. She expressed so often what a blessing they were to her and was proud when they spoke Italian. Florence is also survived by many relatives including sisters-in-law, Lina, Grazia and Amalia Guido; Gelsomina Metallo, Michelina Mazzei, and one brother-in-law Gaspare (Carmelina) Chiappetta; sisters-in-law Cicchina and Virginia Chiappetta, and brother-in-law, Frank Vulnera, Italy; nieces, nephews, cousins and her special friend, Rose Nigro. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Frank, Cesare and Emilio Guido and two sisters, Carolina (Guido) Savaglio and Saveria (Guido) Ruffolo. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 27th, from Proko Funeral Home at 9:30 a.m. Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, 1919-54th Street. Entombment will follow at All Saints Mausoleum.
