Eleanor Pugh, 87, of Kenosha, passed away on Saturday, October 19, 2013, at Brookside Care Center surrounded by her family after living a full and wonderful life. She was born in Kenosha on August 2, 1926, the daughter of the late Louis D. and Wilemena (Knop) Matalas. She graduated from Mary D. Bradford High in 1944. On August 26, 1950, she married Edwin A. Pugh in Kenosha, and was occasionally seen riding on the back of his Harley-Davidson motorcycle. He preceded her in death on May 23, 1966. Eleanor dedicated herself to her life’s calling of motherhood, never remarrying and tending to her children, Jim and Mary. Eleanor made sure her children did well in school and earned college degrees. She sacrificed so her children could have music lessons, sports, and hobbies. She even taught the children to play baseball, and that legacy lives on with her grandchildren today. Eleanor was employed by Kenosha Unified School District as a secretary for 45 years. She was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and enjoyed needlepoint, ceramics and spending time with her family. She is survived by her two children, Jim Pugh of Madison and Mary (Aaron) Butler of Kenosha, and five grandchildren; Mathew, Bowen and Alexandra Pugh and Ben and Olivia Butler. She is preceded in death by her two brothers, Louie and Clarence Matalas. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 25th, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, 2223-51st Street, Kenosha. Interment will follow at St. James Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Proko Funeral Home, 5111-60th Street, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Thursday and will continue on Friday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass. A rosary service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday at 6:40 p.m.Proko Funeral Home & Crematory5111-60th StreetKenosha, WI 53144Phone: (262) 654-3533Visit Eleanor’s Online Memorial Book at:www.prokofuneralhome.com
