Rita Carlson passed away on Thursday, October 17, 2013, at Brookside Care Center after an 8 year struggle with Alzheimer’s disease. Rita was born in Kenosha, WI, on December 4, 1920, to John and Anna (Schuenemann) Maurer. Her twin brother was Richard Maurer. She was educated at St. George School and graduated from Kenosha High School. After graduation she worked at Snap-On Tools. Rita married Dale C. Carlson on May 16, 1949. He preceded her in death on March 24, 1988. He was a 38 year veteran of the Kenosha Fire Department and they enjoyed many activities with their firefighter friends. When her children got older, she worked at Montgomery Wards and Sears. During her lifetime she enjoyed traveling, bowling, golfing and spending time with her family and friends. Survivors include her children, Janet (Vince) Condella of Mequon, WI, Nancy Carlson of Kenosha, WI, and Tom (Cindy) Carlson of Chandler, AZ; her grandchildren, Paul Oquist of Kenosha, WI, Jody (Eric) Ambrose of Racine, WI, Jennifer (Alvin) Moore of Gilbert, AZ, Steve (Casey) Carlson of Gilbert, AZ, and Megan Carlson of Chandler, AZ; her great-grandchildren, Dayton, Ashton, David, Devin, and Kirah; and by many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by three brothers, Ray Maurer, John (Arlene) Maurer and Larry (Marion) Maurer and by her dearest friend and sister-in-law, Gloria (Richard) Maurer, all of whom reside in Kenosha, WI. She was preceded in death by her twin brother, Richard Maurer, her sister, Marie Gemig and her brother, Leonard Maurer. The family would like to thank the staff of Regent Manor and Brookside Care Center for the excellent care they have given Rita during this illness.
