Esther E. Kempf, 93, of Kenosha, peacefully passed away on Saturday, December 15, 2012, at Grande Prairie Health and Rehab with her family by her side. Esther was the daughter of Edward and Hattie (Holbrook) Powell. She was born on August 20, 1919, in Bristol Township the youngest of four children. She attended schools in Bristol and Kenosha. She resided in the city of Kenosha since 1984. On August 26, 1944, she married Joseph Kempf at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church in Bristol Township. He preceded her in death on July 21, 1992. Before her marriage she worked at Coopers (Jockey) in Kenosha making bomb chutes for the war. After she married, she worked in a department store in Phoenix, AZ, where the couple resided while Joseph served his country in World War II. After his discharge from the army the couple returned to the Bristol area where Esther retired from work outside the home to become a full time homemaker and mother. The couple had five children together, three sons, Frank R. (Dorothy) Kempf of Bristol, Donald J. (Deborah) Kempf of Mountain, WI, and John S. (Kim) Kempf of Ft. Atkinson, and two daughters, Joan M. (Thomas) Kiesler of Winter, WI, and Lucille A. (Ronald) Fox of Bristol. Esther was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Kenosha, and a past member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church in Bristol Township. Esther enjoyed sewing and doing needlework. She also enjoyed cooking and baking for her family. In addition to her five children, Esther is survived by her ten grandchildren, Michael (Denise) Kiesler, Gregory (Lynnette) Kempf, Krista (Tom) Koch, Jason (Roxanne) Kempf, Tessa (Dale) Matuszazak, Amanda (William) Lois, Michael (Erika) Kempf, Angela (Neil) Daniels, Karla (Jason) Johnson, and Joseph Kempf, seventeen great-grandchildren and five step great-grandchildren. Esther was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph, her parents, and her sisters, Anna Belle Gillmore, Margaret Gillmore and Lova Bohn Schwartz. The family would like to say special thanks to the staff at Canterbury Home in Kenosha where Esther very happily resided the past two years and to the staff at Grande Prairie for the special care she received in her final days. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 19th, at Wesley United Methodist Church, 4600-60th Street, Kenosha, at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at South Bristol Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
