Genevieve I. “Jen” Fortino, 94, of Kenosha, passed away on Saturday, August 11, 2012, at St. Catherine’s Medical Center in Pleasant Prairie. Born in Kenosha on March 7, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Dominic and Loretta (Cosentino) Forgianni. She was raised in Aurora, IL, where she received her education and returned to Kenosha as a teenager. On July 27, 1940, she married Edward Fortino at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on October 22, 1986. She was formerly employed with N.Y.A. and with the St. Casimir Catholic School lunch program where she was instrumental with starting the hot lunch program. She retired from St. Catherine’s Hospital as the head baker. Jen was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church and the Italian American Ladies’ Auxiliary. She was also a former member of St. Casimir Catholic Church where she was involved with the Busy Fingers Ladies’ Group. She used to knit hats, mittens and slippers for the children at Women’s Horizon, loved working in her garden, and will be most remembered for her wonderful baking skills. Survivors include her two daughters, Kathleen (Anthony) Mianecki and Patti Eland, both of Kenosha; a sister, Theresa Jackson of Kenosha; and five grandchildren, Eddie Mianecki, Philip Mianecki, Laura (Ed) Sunderland, Erika Eland and Dana Eland. She was preceded in death by a sister, Theresa in infancy; and two brothers, Sam and Ray Forgianni. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 16th, from the Proko Funeral Home at 9:30 a.m. Mass will be held at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, 1919-54th Street, at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at St. George Cemetery.
