Dorothy L. Poppe

Dorothy L. Poppe, 64, of Kenosha, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 25, 2012, at her daughter’s home in Bristol with her loving family by her side. Born on November 24, 1947, in Ashland, WI, she was the daughter of the late John Herman and Edna (Kyllonen) Nuutinen. On August 21, 1965, she married James R. “Buck” Poppe in Marengo, WI. They moved to Illinois then to Kenosha in 1981 and have resided here since. Dorothy was employed as an Office Administrator by Kenosha County for over 24 years until she retired in May of this year. She is survived by her four children, Richard (Michelle) Poppe and Nicole (Scott) Massie both of Bristol, and Colleen Poppe and Andrew Poppe, both of Kenosha; twelve grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and five sisters, Carole (Howard) Nordquist of Pleasant Prairie, Sally Bilson of California, Phyllis (Richard) Caya of Marengo, WI, and Faye (Michael) Payeur and Kay (Daniel) Poland, both of Highbridge, WI. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, step-mother, Wilma (Dormanen) Nuutinen, two brothers, Gerald and Charles, and a sister in infancy, Arlene. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 30th, at Independent Apostolic Lutheran Church in Bristol, 6721-156th Avenue, at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be on Monday at Mount Hope Cemetery in Highbridge, WI, at 12:00 noon. Dort was a good friend of mine in high school and I really loved her. She was always the same whenever I saw her and I know she will be missed by everyone who knew her. Please know you are all in my prayers and I know you will all see her again some day!

I remember Dort in high school as a friendly and energetic classmate. Her passing must be especially difficult with the recent passing of James. To the family, our thoughts and prayers are with you.
