LaVerne "Lovie" Goodman, 89, of Kenosha, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 26, 2012, at Brookside Care Center. Born on September 1, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Cornelius and Rose (Hackbarth) Kraak. On June 17, 1943, she married Robert Goodman in Kenosha. On their 67th anniversary, June 17, 2010, he preceded her in death. Before she retired LaVerne had been employed at the Brown National Bank, Abbott Labs and LeBlanc. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. LaVerne was an accomplished quilter and a member of the Southport Quilters Guild. She was also an accomplished seamstress, making all of her own clothes for much of her adult life. LaVerne was an exceptional cook and baker and always had a hot meal on the table even when she worked full time. Her garden was always huge and provided for all of us. Bob and LaVerne spent their summers at a cottage on Big Stone Lake in Three Lakes for the past 50 years. They enjoyed fishing and spending time with relatives. Her biggest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Holidays were always special for her as she gathered her family around. She is survived by her daughter, Sue (Ken) Smith of Bristol; two grandchildren, Benjamin (Kristi) Smith and Kathryn Smith; two great-grandchildren, Camryn and Carson Smith; and her step-brother, Bernard Moehrke. LaVerne was also preceded in death by her brother, Roger Kraak; and her sister, Bernice Moehrke. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 1st, at Proko Funeral Home at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Sunset Ridge Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Thursday at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
