Russell L. "Russ" Rynders, 76, of Kenosha, passed away peacefully Saturday, February 4th at Hospice House surrounded by his loving family. Born in Franklin, WI, on October 13, 1935, he was the son of the late Lawrence and Florence (Kavanaugh) Rynders. In 1945 his family moved to Kenosha to make their home. Russ was in the United States Marines during the Korean War, from February 11, 1954, until his honorable discharge in 1957. He received the Good Conduct Medal, Sharp Shooter Medal and the Korean Service Medal. He had been employed by the Public Works Dept. for the Village of Pleasant Prairie until his retirement in1997. He also was a plasterer for Don Bain. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, VFW Junker Ball Post 1865, American Legion Post 552, The Korean War Veterans Organization and the Knights of Columbus. Russ was also a 4th Degree Arch Bishop Messmer Assembly and 3rd Degree St. Mary Knights of Columbus. Surviving are his four children, Debra Rynders of Baton Rouge, LA, Karen Rynders of West Chicago, IL, Sharon Rynders of Naperville, IL, and John (Lenore) Rynders of Williamsburg, WV; three sisters, Elaine (Burt) Phelps of Burlington, WI, Theresa (William) Zielsdorf of Kenosha, and Janice (Patrick) Krokowski of Racine, WI; his eight grandchildren, John, Ariel, Helen, Rebekah, Caleb, John Rynders, Jr., Destiny and Ernest; four great-grandchildren; and the love of his life, DeDe. Russ was preceded in death by his parents. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Malik Bandealy, his staff and Hospice House for the excellent care of their father. Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 10th, at Proko Funeral Home at 9:30 a.m. Mass will be celebrated on Friday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. with full military honors to follow.
