Ronald Samuel Cairo

1938 ∼ 2011

Ronald S. Cairo, 73, of Kenosha, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, November 22, 2011, at his residence. He was born in Kenosha on January 28, 1938, the son of Frank S. and Mildred (Nardine) Cairo. He attended St. Mark’s Catholic School and graduated from Mary D. Bradford High School. On July 9, 1960, at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, he married Josephine A. Salituro. Ron was happily surprised to find out during their first date that Josie grew up one block away from his childhood residence in the same Italian neighborhood. He was employed as a car scheduler for American Motors/Chrysler Corp. for 30 years until his retirement in 1988. Ron was a member of St. Therese Catholic Church, the Italian American Men’s Society, and St. Mark’s Reunion Committee, where he served as treasurer. Ron’s greatest love was his family. He enjoyed Sunday dinners with his immediate family and Saturday breakfasts, as well as the birthday dinner club and playing Hearts, with his relatives. Another passion in his life was the game of bocce. He was one of the founding members of the Lone Oak Bocce Club where he won several single and doubles championships. He was a current member of the Italian American Bocce League, for which he served as commissioner for many years and won 13 championships. He was also a former member of a championship bocce team at the Roma Lodge. Ron took pride in his homemade Italian olives and well-manicured lawn. He also liked the Green Bay Packers and was a die-hard New York Yankees fan. Surviving are his wife, Josephine of Kenosha; his four children, Frank C. (Barbara) Cairo of San Diego, CA, Renee (Tom) Blise of Kenosha, Michelle (Dean) Loew of St. Mary’s, KS, and Steven (Gloria) Cairo of Kenosha; his mother, Mildred Cairo of Kenosha; a brother, Richard (Carol) Cairo of Tallahassee, FL; eleven grandchildren, Kortney Sawyer, Ashley (Brent Verhyen) Blise, Nicole Blise, Kellan, Matthew, Patrick, Michael and Christina Loew, and Geneva, Gianni and Evalie Cairo; and a great-granddaughter, Madelyn Verhyen. He was preceded in death by his father, Frank S. Cairo. To all of Ron's Family - - I was shocked and very sad to read about one of my St. Mark's Grade School classmates, I'm so glad we kept in touch over the years - - I only wish I had had some warning about this.

To my friend Steve and the entire Cairo family. My deepest sympathy goes out to everyone. I did not know Ron very well, by the way Steve talked he was proud of his father and will be sadly missed. I'm sure Billy, Mickey,The Yankee Clipper and all the other Yankee greats will have a place on the bench for him. God bless you all.
