Glen Vernon Harris

1924 ∼ 2011

Glen V. Harris, 86, of Pleasant Prairie, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 25, 2011, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Born in Antigo, WI, on December 8, 1924, he was the son of the late Robert Lee and Lottie (Boggs) Harris. He was educated in the schools of Forrest County and graduated from Crandon High School. He was in the United States Navy during World War II as a Fireman 1C, entering the service on September 3, 1943, and was honorably discharged on March 23, 1946. He received the World War II Victory Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Area Ribbon with 4 Stars, Philippine Liberation Ribbon and the American Area Ribbon. He served aboard the LST 449 Troop Carrier. After returning from service he worked at American Motors Corp. He was a very active member and officer of UAW Local 72, holding many positions during the 14 years he was on the board. Glen was asked to be on the International UAW staff in Detroit. He spent considerable time in the Kenosha and Milwaukee areas with their UAW local. He also served the Canadian UAW Local in Brompton AMC plant. Glen retired in 1985. He was also a member of Wisconsin LST Association. On August 5, 1950, he married Lorraine Jensen at St. Mary’s Lutheran Church. Surviving are his wife, Lorraine of Pleasant Prairie; three sons, Glen R. (Penny) Harris of Pleasant Prairie, Scott (Teresa) Harris of Pleasant Prairie, and Tracy (Lisa) Harris of Auburn, CA; and his two grandchildren; Fred Harris of Slidell, LA, and Matt Harris of Milwaukee, WI. He was preceded in death by a brother, Paul V. Harris; and a sister, Lucille Huven. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 29th, at St. Mary’s Lutheran Church at 11:30 a.m. Visitation will be held on Saturday at St. Mary’s Lutheran Church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
