Bertha Viola Beckmann
Bertha Viola Beckmann, 81, of Kenosha, passed away on Sunday, October 16, 2011, at Froedtert Hospital, Milwaukee, WI, as a result of injuries sustained in a fall. Born on November 17, 1929, in Lake Villa, IL, she was the daughter of the late Peter J. and Marie (Schaefer) Myer. She attended school in Lake Villa, IL, graduating from Grant High School in Fox Lake, IL. On September 10, 1960 she married Earl T. Beckmann at Immaculate Conception Church in Waukegan, IL; with a Latin Mass and they moved to Kenosha. Until her retirement in 1993, Bertha was employed by Johns Manville Corporation as a Cost Accountant for over 33 years. Bertha was a member of St. James Catholic Church, the Mothers of Twins Club, and she was an advisor for Junior Achievement. She taught CCD at St. Therese Church and volunteered at the Kenosha Medical Center. She loved to bowl, spend time with her granddaughter, attend musicals, and extensively travel. She also enjoyed church activities, gardening and flowers. Bertha was very involved with MGV Harmonia and Cardiac Rehab at Kenosha Medical Center. She is survived by her loving husband, Earl; three children, Allan Beckmann of Milwaukee, Dr. Kathleen (Jeffrey) Beckmann Sluzenski of Greenfield and Dr. Michael (Karen) Beckmann of Springfield, IL; a grandchild, Helena Sluzenski; and step-grandchildren, Jennifer, Michael, Kenneth and Joshua Stevens. Bertha was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Elaine Wells. Funeral services will be held at Proko Funeral Home on Thursday, October 20th, at 10:30 a.m. Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, at St. James Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. Entombment will follow at All Saints Mausoleum.
