Domenico Ruffolo, 86, of Pleasant Prairie, passed away on Saturday, September 3, 2011, at Sheridan Medical Complex surrounded by his loving family. Born on March 5, 1925, in Marano Marchesto Principato, Cosenza, Italy, he was the son of the late Francesco and Angelina (Serpe) Ruffolo. On February 9, 1947, he married Carmela DeBartolo at Mt. Carmel Church in Marano Marchesto Principato, Cosenza, Italy. She preceded him in death on January 15, 1999. Domenico came to Kenosha in 1967 and has resided here since. He worked in several countries, prior to his emigrating to the U.S., to support his family, and finally retiring from Peter Pirsch in Kenosha in 1986. In his spare time he enjoyed taking care of his garden, making wine and sausage; his hobbies included fishing, playing cards with his buddies, tinkering with carpentry or anything else that broke down and most of all he loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is survived by his three daughters, Mimma Ziccarelli, Delfina Volpendesta and Angelina (James) Greco, all of Kenosha; a son, Patrizio (Patricia) Ruffolo of Pleasant Prairie; a brother, Emilio (Gilda) Ruffolo of Kingston, Ontario, Canada; ten grandchildren; and eighteen great-grandchildren. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Clubb, Dr. Didinsky, Dr. Angelina Montemurro, staff at Kenosha Hospital, St. Catherine’s Hospital, Sheridan Medical Complex and Hospice Alliance for the wonderful care given to our father. Domenico was preceded in death by three sisters, Maria Serpe, Gelsomina Conforti and Ida Vulnera; eight brothers, Luigi, Leopoldo, Antonio, Carmine (Santo), Giacomino, Pietro, Enrico and Fiorino Ruffolo; a daughter, Babila Elena in infancy; and two sons-in-law, Silvio Ziccarelli and Michael Volpendesta. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 8th, from Proko Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church at 11:30 a.m. Entombment will follow at All Saints Cemetery. We are deeply saddened to hear that uncle Domenico passed. We will keep all who knew him in our thoughts and prayers. We never had the opportunity to see uncle Domenico as much as we would have liked, but we remember his good qualities and especially his sense of humor.
