John F. "Jack" Schumacher, 80, of Kenosha, passed away on Wednesday, July 13, 2011, at United Hospital System-Kenosha Campus, with his loving family at his side. Born on June 9, 1931, he was the son of the late Hubert and Rose (Leitz) Schumacher. He was educated in the schools of Kenosha. On June 9, 1951, he married Elizabeth Brion. They had a loving, caring marriage for 60 years. On January 23, 1952, he entered the United States Army during the Korean War where he served until his honorable discharge. He received the Korean Service Medal with 2 Bronze Service Stars, the Combat Infantry Badge, National Defense Medal and the United Nations Service Medal. John was employed as a polisher for Tri-Clover for 40 ½ years, until his retirement in 1995. Jack was a member of St. Mary’s Lutheran Church and a life member of V.F.W. Junker Ball Post 1865. He took great pleasure in working with Job’s Daughters Bethel #77. Jack also enjoyed fishing and traveling. Surviving are his wife, Betty; daughter, Lynn (Tim) Miller of Stoughton, WI; and three grandchildren, Ryan, Adam and Abbey. He was preceded in death by a brother, Hubert; and a sister, Dorothy Wincek. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the Kenosha Hospital staff, the caring and dedicated nurses and doctors in the Critical Care Unit, and especially to Dr. Peter Mariani. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 19th, at St. Mary’s Lutheran Church at 1:30 p.m. Interment with full military honors will follow at Green Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday at Proko Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with the Junker-Ball V.F.W. Post 1865 conducting their Chapel Service at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
