Gilda (Mazzei) Turco, 89, long time resident of Kenosha, WI, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 30, 2011, at Northwest Medical Center in Tucson, AZ. Gilda was the daughter of the late Filippo and Luisa (Molinaro) Mazzei, of Berwyn, IL. She was born in Cosenza, Italy, and immigrated to the United States at an early age. After growing up and attending high school in the Chicago-area, Gilda took a job with Motorola. She was married in July, 1955, and settled in Kenosha, where she raised her family. Gilda was preceded in death by her husband, the late Peter Turco, who passed away in January, 1999. Gilda is survived by one sister, Rita (Mazzei) Johnston of Huntley, IL, and two brothers, Ernest Mazzei of Mt. Prospect, IL, and Frank Mazzei of Schaumburg, IL. She is also survived by her three children and their families, Anthony “Tony” and Renae (Larson) Turco of Oro Valley, AZ, Larry and Cynthia (Turco) Eckert of Glendale, WI, and Christopher Turco of Oro Valley, AZ. Gilda adored her two grandchildren, Kailey and Kristen Turco (daughters of Tony and Renae), both of whom reside in Tempe, AZ, while attending college. When living in Kenosha, Gilda was very involved with relatives, friends and a variety of volunteer work. The Holy Rosary Sports Night and University of Wisconsin Alumni Association events, which her husband Pete helped coordinate, were especially enjoyable for her. In her later years, Gilda relocated to Arizona, where she continued to enjoy cooking and socialized with a whole new circle of friends. She was grateful to have had the opportunity to see her granddaughters grow to young adulthood. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 11th, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 4400-22nd Avenue, in Kenosha. Interment will follow at All Saints Mausoleum, 3300 Springbrook Road, Pleasant Prairie, WI. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Gilda’s name.
