Edward A. Dyer, 74, of Kenosha, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, April 23, 2011, at his residence. Born in DeSoto, WI, on January 14, 1937, he was the son of the late Edmund and Hazel (Kloak) Dyer. He was educated in the schools of DeSoto. On June 1, 1955, he entered the U.S. Navy. He was honorably discharged on May 27, 1959, in San Diego, CA. Edward came to Kenosha in 1963 to work at American Motors. After a short while there he was employed with the U.S. Post Office before joining the Kenosha Police Department on October 15, 1969. On June 1, 1989, he was promoted to Sergeant and retired from the force on June 30, 1993. He was a member of the American Legion David Leet Post 552, enjoyed his “Breakfast Club” time with his fellow retired police officers and was a former member of the Masons. Edward enjoyed all Wisconsin sports, especially the Packers and the Badgers, and also loved golfing. Survivors include his two children, Mark (Michelle) Dyer, Sr. and Kelly Dyer, both of Kenosha; a brother, Robert (Verona) Dyer of Scottsdale, AZ; a sister, Dellora Ann Vogt of Butternut, WI; five grandchildren, Mackenzie, Mark Jr., Kaitlyn, Caleb and Fiona; a great-granddaughter, Briella; his former wife, Deanna Clancy of Kenosha; a brother-in-law, Richard Lechnir; two nephews, Michael (Nina) Lechnir and David (Renee) Vogt; and three nieces, Anne (Jim) Sullivan, Roberta Dyer, and Jo Ellen (Joanne Mills) Vogt. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Ellen Lechnir; and a brother-in-law, Joseph Vogt. A memorial service will be held on Monday, May 2nd, at Proko Funeral Home at 4:00 p.m. followed by full military honors. Interment will be held on Tuesday at Southern Wisconsin Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove at 1:00 p.m. Visitation will be held on Monday at the funeral home from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Ed will be missed, just saw him a week ago at Piggly Wiggly and we talked about going out for breakfast and coffee. So sadden to hear he died. We have many good memories from times at the American Legion in Somers.
