Mr. Meyer was my 5th grade teacher at Green Bay Road School in the late 60s. He was one of my favorite teachers. I remember his Mach 1 Mustang. I think of him often. My condolences to his family.

I became acquainted with Del when he adopted Scrubby. I was then, and always, impressed by his outgoing manner and delight in his endeavors. Such a wonderful, sharing person. He opened his heart and made the world a beautiful place. He made a difference and will always be warmly remembered.Lin KarrelsMalinois Rescue

Wishing Del's family peace and great memories. Del adopted several of our Malinois Rescue dogs and took in a foster who was greatly in need just before he passed on - his only concern was that I move her on before he fell in love and adopted her too. Del was a very special man and much loved. He had a huge heart and I will miss him very much. Godspeed, Del - your dogs will find you in Heaven.Beverly Enold

My deepest sympathy to the family of Mr. Meyers. For you see, I remember him as a student at Lincoln State Graded. My brother had him I believe in 6th grade. We were one of the families that lived at Truesdell back in the late 50's and early 60's. Days before bus routes. That was quite a walk when there was not a vehicle available. In his obit, I noticed something very special about him....He had heart for animals. I live between Antioch IL, and Cape Coral FL, and this year I was fortunate enough to land the greatest volunteer position at an Exotic Wildlife Sanctuary and Rehab. Our animals are the cast offs of society. Some come to us by way of law enforcement confiscations, domestic households that didn't quite understand the needs and attention to tigers and lions, Large exotic animals from circuses that were shut down and the Movie/Advertising world after they could not make money for their owners any longer...so we look at our Sanctuary as a nursing home where they may live their lives out in peace and quiet. Maybe perhaps in some small way, Mr. Myers love for animals somehow came to connect with us and carrying a part of him with us through these years. I will fondly remember him as a caring teacher....kind and always listened to his students. He may have been stern at times, but I believe it help shape us to become the individuals that we are today.

I have fond memories of the days I was the librarian at Forest Park where Del was a dedicated teacher. I enjoyed working with him and shared his interest in Native American culture. I think the following poem is a fitting tribute to Del. NATIVE AMERICAN PRAYERDo not stand at my grave and weepI am not there; I do not sleep.I am a thousand winds that blow,I am the diamond glints on snow,I am the sun on ripened grain,I am the gentle autumn rain. When you awaken in the morning's hushI am the swift uplifting rushOf quiet birds in circled flight. I am the soft stars that shine at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry, I am not there; I did not die.Do not think of me as gone – I am with you still – in each new dawn.

I've known Del for 50 years. We sure had fun with the Berkely. We still saw him often at car events. I'm shocked to hear of Del's passing. I talked to him about a month ago looking for some Berkely photos. He seemed fine then. Del was a great friend and I will miss him very much. Sorry I won't be able to attend the service as I'm in Florida for another week.

Del was a wonderful and gentle person I was fortunate to have known in my life. I was introduced to Del over 20 years ago when I married my husband David Maack. Del was his Scout Leader. The two never tired about talking about scouting and Dell was a wonderful contributor to UW-Parkside's Sacred Circle Native American Pow Wow 2004 Committee when I chaired the organization. I was honored to know him and loved the fact that I could introduce my son to him and have them sing together at the "REAL MEN DO SING" Barbershop events at Carthage College for the past 3 years. I miss you Del."

Uncle Del, or "Unkadel" as you jokingly referred to yourself, our whole family is devastated by your death. Nobody saw this coming, and I'm sure you didn't either. You were so full of life...singing, taking care of dogs, collecting cars...I can't believe that you're gone. You were supposed to be here with us for years to come. You will be missed more than you ever could have imagined. We love you. Dave & Kathy & kids
