Walter Frederick Kopf, 90, formerly of Kenosha, late of Mechanicsville, VA, passed away on Saturday, January 1, 2011, in Richmond, VA. He was born in Ableman, WI, on September 23, 1920, the son of the late Fred and Lena (Paff) Kopf. He was educated in the schools of Rock Springs, WI, and moved to Kenosha in 1947. In 2000 he moved to New Jersey and in 2005 to Virginia. On October 18, 1947, he married Erna Konitz. She preceded him in death on July 3, 1984. Then on April 5, 1986, he married Caroline Obermiller. She preceded him in death on June 21, 1990. Walter's first love was farming. After he left the farm, he was employed with J.I. Case for 28 years until his retirement in 1979. He was a former member of Immanuel Baptist Church where he also served as Deacon, Moderator and Adult Sunday School Teacher. He also was a former member of Victory Bible Church in Hammonton, NJ, and Cool Spring Baptist Church in Mechanicsville, VA. Walter enjoyed Bible study and gardening in his retirement years. Walter is survived by a son, David (Kathie) Kopf of Monroe, WI; a daughter, Esther (David) Toppin of Mechanicsville, VA; a brother, Harold Kopf of Sussex, WI; two sisters, Wilma Behr of Cottage Grove, WI, and Joyce Fritzke of Stettler, Alberta, Canada; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four brothers. Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 6th, at Proko Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Sunset Ridge Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Thursday at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
