Richard H. "Dick" Mickelsen

Richard H. "Dick" Mickelsen, 83, passed away on Tuesday, October 19, 2010, at Washington Manor. Born in Kenosha on November 12, 1926, he was the son of the late Harry H. and Gertrude (Tucker) Mickelsen. He attended local schools and graduated from Bradford High School. He honorably served his country as a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corp from 1945 to 1949. He married Marguerite Gelsone in 1950. After that marriage ended in divorce, he married Harriet "Happy" White, who preceded him in death. On October 9, 1970, he married Betty Rott in Lamore, ND. When he resided in North Dakota, Richard worked as an operating engineer. After returning to Kenosha he was employed by Luedtke Engineering dredging harbors around the Great Lakes. The yard of his Pleasant Prairie home was decorated with many anchors he recovered. One such find was the five ton anchor that sits at the Kenosha Harbor, which Richard donated to the Navy Club to be placed in Navy Park. He was a member of Local 139 Operating Engineers. Dick loved feeding the squirrels, woodworking and being on the water at his job. He is survived by his wife Betty; a son, Daniel (Paula) Mickelsen; stepsons, Gerald and Henry Rott; ten grandchildren; a niece and nephew; and a cousin, Ione Kreamer. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter; sister, Darlene "Mickey" Mickelsen Klammer; stepdaughter, Jan Rott Johnson; and stepson, Richard Rott.
