Earl L. Combs, 82, of Kenosha, passed away suddenly on Friday, October 15, 2010, at United Hospital System-Kenosha Campus. Born on April 30, 1928, in Elton, WI, he was the son of the late William and Nettie (Gee) Combs. He was educated in the schools of Northern Wisconsin, coming to Kenosha in 1945 to make his home. He was a Corporal in the United States Marines from 1951 until 1953. On April 3, 1948, he married Mary C. Santopoalo at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church. She passed away on November 10, 1999. Earl was a mechanic by trade. He had been employed by American Motors/Chrysler Corp. for over 30 years, retiring in 1988. He also worked privately as an automotive mechanic for many years. He was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Bell City Senior Citizen Center in Racine and was an avid NASCAR Fan. Surviving are two brothers, Maurice and Carrol, both of Elton, WI; two sisters, Helen Carpenter of Arizona and Judy Wilson of Antigo, WI; several nieces and nephews; his special friend, Carolyne E. Luettgen; and special neighbors and friends, David E. and Arlene Diehn. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Lee and William Combs. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 19th, at Proko Funeral Home at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at St. George Cemetery. I haven't seen Earl since the 60s. He was a very good friend when we worked on the AMC tune up lines and took our Buicks to the drag races.
