Eugene Kemen
Eugene T. Kemen, 79, of Kenosha, passed away March 29, 2010, at Kenosha Hospital with his loving family by his side. He was born December 29, 1930 in Kenosha. He was the son of the late Michael and Hazel (McGonagle) Kemen. He was a lifelong resident of Kenosha. Eugene was enlisted in the United States Naval Reserves from June 17, 1948, until his honorable discharge on March 12, 1951. He then enlisted in the United Stated Army on November 18, 1951, serving with the Tank Company 180th Infantry as a Corporal, until his honorable discharge on August 14, 1953. He received the Korean Service Medal with one Bronze Service Star and the United Nations Service Medal. On September 17, 1955 he married Catherine Spallato at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church. Following high school, he was employed by Nash Motors. He graduated from Barber College. He worked at Dick’s Barber shop then went on to owning his own shop, Gene’s Barber Shop. He was employed by Snap-On Tools for 21 years as a machinist, retiring in 1993. Eugene was a Golden Gloves Boxer. He was a life member of the VFW Post 1865, a member of St. Mark’s Catholic Church, and The Kenosha Art Association. He enjoyed painting portraits and still lifes, sculpting, going to plays and movies, and driving his 1974 Fiat Spider. He especially loved spending time with his best friend his wife, his children, grandchildren, and beloved Dalmatian, Mindy. He is survived by his wife, Catherine of Kenosha; four children, Kevin (Michelle) Kemen of Lambertville, MI, Irene (Thomas) Gram of Kenosha, Catherine (John) Ash of New Berlin, WI, and Michael (Betty) Kemen of Kenosha; a sister, Mary Ellen (Jim) Yorton of Kenosha; a brother, Edward Kemen of Kenosha; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Eugene was preceded in death by his brother, James Kemen. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 31st, at Proko Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at All Saints Mausoleum Chapel at 12:30 p.m. followed by full Military Honors. My condolences to Catherine and the family. I use to work at Snap-on in the Insurance Dept. and really enjoyed working with Eugene. He was a very nice man and even when he retired I would help him out with his insurance issues. He will be sadly missed by family and friends.....

Most heartfelt condolences to Dolly, kids and entire family. Gene was always a pleasure to chat with when he and Dolly visited. I enjoyed hearing about his loves, his family and his Fiat! He will be missed.
