James “Jim” Lee Shaffar, 62, of Racine, formerly of Kenosha, passed away on Tuesday, October 20, 2009. Born on September 21, 1947, to Robert and Lorraine (nee: Beattie) Shaffar, in Waukegan, IL. As a young child, Jim lived in Zion, IL, and Hollywood, FL. His family moved to Kenosha in 1960, where Jim graduated from Tremper High School. He later earned an associate’s degree at Gateway Technical College. Jim went to work for J. I. Case shortly out of high school, and worked there over 30 years, interrupted by service in the U.S. Army from 1967 until 1973. He was stationed in Germany and Chicago where he worked in missile defense and rose to the rank of SP 5. On his return to Wisconsin he went back to work at Case as a materials coordinator and supervisor. He also kept busy raising his three children, Sondra, Jeff, and Eric. Jim had many interests. He kept a meticulous home and garden, where he loved to grow tomatoes for everyone he knew. An avid golfer, he enjoyed playing with his son Jeffery and his brothers. His real passion came out later in life when he took up painting about 10 years ago. Self taught, his paintings progressed through a series of landscapes and historic spots in Racine. But when he combined his love of golf and his love of painting he came up with a project that kept him busy and happy for several years: he made a painting of each hole at Shoops, the municipal golf course in Racine. That series of paintings now hangs around the walls of the Shoops clubhouse. In looking back on Jim’s life, from school to the service to work, the constant thread is his relationships to people: his family and friends. He was an extremely generous and kindhearted man, who especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren J.J., Crystal, and Kim. His son, Jeff, recalls that his father often told him that a person must have humility and respect for others. He is survived by his sons, Jeffery Shaffar of Racine and Eric Hudock of Kenosha; three brothers, Robert (Susan) Shaffar of San Jose, CA, Mark (Mike) Shaffar of Kenosha, WI, and Scott (Renee) Shaffar of Irvine CA; seven grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter Sondra, and his parents. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 24th, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 7104-39th Avenue, Kenosha, at 10:00 a.m. followed by internment at Memorial Park Cemetery in Skokie, IL, where he will be laid to rest by his mother and grandparents. A Visitation will be held at Proko Funeral Home on Friday, October 23rd, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.Proko Funeral Home & Crematory5111-60th StreetKenosha, WI 53144Phone: (262) 654-3533Visit Jim’s Online Memorial Book at:www.prokofuneralhome.com

Jim I remember you when you were 18 years old. That is when I first met you. You were a wonderful young man then and you grew into a wonderful older man. You were a loving and kind father to you children Sondra, Jeff and Eric. You were my first love, my first boyfriend and then you met your real love Pat and married her and had 3 beautiful children. I know now you are with Sondra in heaven. Your legacy lives on Jim through your two sons and your grandchildren.
