Thomas E. Ollanketo, 72, formerly of Kenosha, late of Mokena, IL, passed away on Thursday, August 6, 2009, at Joliet Area Community Hospice in Joliet, IL, surrounded by his family. Born on April 14, 1937, in Marengo, WI, he was the son of the late George and Aina (Hannula) Ollanketo. He was educated in the schools of Ashland County, WI, and went on to attend teaching college. On July 19, 1998, he married Constance "Connie" Peterson in Palos Heights, IL. He worked as a tool and cutter grinder for various companies in northern Illinois and in more recent years worked part time as a school bus driver and a security officer. Thomas attended the Independent Apostolic Lutheran Church in Bristol for over 50 years. He was a hard worker, enjoyed making tapes of Christian music and sharing them with others, loved spending time with his family and telling jokes. Survivors include his wife, Connie of Wauconda, IL; seven children, Bruce of Minneapolis, Lois Tate of Kenosha, Audrey (Tracy) Henshaw of Chattanooga, TN, Eric (Karla) of Minneapolis, Lee (Melanie) of Chattanooga, TN, Rachel Lake of Jacksonville, FL, and Hank (Sarah) of Kenosha; four brothers, Rudy (Bernice), Paul (Dorothy), Cliff (Ruth), and Jim (Priscilla); four sisters, Darlene (Frank) Carlson, Cathy (Arnie) Nevala, Dolores (Buddy) Kyllonen, and Judy (Mark) Anderson; 14 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty; two brothers, Elden and Ray; and three sisters, Gladys Miller, Bea Wuollet, and Margie Hepokoski. Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 10th, at the Independent Apostolic Lutheran Church, 6721-156th Avenue, Bristol, WI, at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Zion, IL. I'm so sorry to hear of Tom's passing. When I was young, he had a talent for communicating with us kids. I remember that whenever something unusual happened in the world or within our small group he always seemed to know just what to say within a spiritual context of faith. I will always miss him for that.
