Katherine (“Katie”) Leone of Kenosha, Wisconsin, Hollywood, Florida and the Bronx—world traveler, devoted mother, beloved wife, homemaker, nurse, great cook and avid gardener—left this world for better places 16 July, 2009, after a long and courageous battle against multiple medical problems. She died at Aurora Medical Center in Kenosha. Katie leaves behind her beloved children: Jacquelyn Leone-Pleasant, Seattle; Lucia Leone, Detroit; Katherine Leone-Roberts, Kenosha; Anthony Leone and daughter-in-law Silvana Leone, Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin. She also leaves five grandchildren and devoted friends and relations all over the U.S. and her ancestral home in Sicily. Katie Fontana, born 1 July, 1926, in Brooklyn, married Antonino (Nino) Leone, a native son of Castellamare del Golfo, the same town near Palermo from which her father emigrated to America. They married in Castellamare 1950 and visited Rome during their honeymoon. They started life together in Peekskill, N.Y. and eventually moved to their permanent family home on Tomlinson Avenue in the Bronx, where they finished raising their children. During that time Katie surprised her entire family with enrollment in the nursing program at Westchester Community College. She completed her degree and went to work at Albert Einstein Medical Center. Katie saw the patient, not the disease, and without hesitation, administered selfless, professional, loving care. Katie and Nino sold their Bronx property and retired to Hollywood, Florida where Nino died in 2006. Katie moved to Kenosha to be close to her children and grandchildren. She lived with her daughter Kathy and grandson Michael for three years. Katie was ferocious, funny, tough, smart, shrewd, quick and was so full of love she could not contain herself. She has gone to her Nino and her youngest son Camillus, who died at 22. With Katie, a bright light has left our skies a little darker over both sides of the Atlantic Ocean.Proko Funeral Home & Crematory5111-60th StreetKenosha, WI 53144Phone: (262) 654-3533Visit Katherine’s Online Memorial Book at:www.prokofuneralhome.com
